PRESIDENT: Katie Smaldon
My name is Katie Smaldon; I am a second year LLB Law student at the University of Exeter and the President of Avolve.
I am a Care Leaver myself - so my passion for Avolve and what we do comes from a very real experience of struggling throughout my School years. Avolve, to me, is a service that I would have greatly benefited from during School, so I am very much looking forward to offering our service to Exeter's local children in care.
Our mentoring service is at the heart of what we do, along with raising awareness as a society of the struggles/stigma children in care face. My role as President is to lead and oversee this work we do as a whole - ensuring our tailored mentoring, opportunities and awareness raising is having a positive impact for children in care and influencing Children's Social Care practice.
To be able to use my experiences to influence a system is a massive privilege and very fulfilling - we have some big plans for the upcoming year!
